President Abiy Ahmed Ali of Ethiopia has led the country in ushering the new year in a colourful ceremony marked by feasting and dance.
The Eastern nation’s calendar is seven years behind the Gregorian one recognised by many countries across the globe. To mark the 2013 new year, Ahmed invited a section of the elderly citizens, persons living with disability and homeless families for a luncheon at the Addis Ababa on September 11.
“In the beginning of this Ethiopian new year, I am delighted to have lunch with the elderly, persons with disabilities and homeless children and youth of our city. In 2013, I call on all Ethiopians to care for the most vulnerable sections of our societies,” he said.
