Radio Presenter And Seven Others Shot Dead In Alexandra By Notorious Gang
According to information obtained by SurgeZirc SA, eight persons, including Joshua Mbatha, the music director for Alex FM, were killed in a series of shootings in Alexandra.
According to a statement from the station, Mbatha, or DJ Jorontinah as he was fondly known, died during a robbery. Together with two of his coworkers, he was stopped by three gunmen while walking home.

Before shooting Mbatha in the chest, they stole their shoes and cell phones. The other two were able to escape unharmed.
“He was walking with two colleagues when they were ambushed by robbers who took their cellphones and shoes. After robbing them, the robbers started shooting randomly and Mbatha was hit in the chest,” Nemangowe said.
“He succumbed to his injuries at Masakhane clinic around 9pm. We are with his father and other family members.

The other victims are thought to have been shot during robberies in separate events when they got out of taxis.
